60 Years

Our first guest arrived 45 minutes early. He seemed like one of those older gentlemen that you are not quite sure how much he is aware of everything and one that I would like to adopt as my grandpa. I’m always trying to adopt grandparents for myself. Maybe I’m deprived of grandparently affection.

We asked if his wife was coming, and he told us that she had passed away three months ago. Mike asked if he was ok. He said no. We asked him how long they had been married. He said 60 years.

He said he was just beginning to know her.

I thought that was beautiful.

We are complex creations, and even if we spend a lifetime getting to know someone, we are barely even scratching the surface of the intricacy of human nature.

  2. Ahh, I love your grandparents! They have always been the closest thing I've had to grandparents here. I randomly saw them in the fall at Hume. It was a nice surprise! Tell them I say hi!
